Lets ignore the great carbon additions of the oil industry and fight zero sum battles over essential agriculture that is going to reduce itself drastically due to climate change anyway. To the last guy, please write this into wikipedia under madness.
Its all groundwork to eliminate natural foods and make everything a commoditized factory made product. The campaign against meat is already picking up speed, then it'll move to the next logical point, until all profits can be captured.
If we look at the numbers, human-produced methane is produced 40% in agriculture, and only 35% from fossil fuels. Of course the fuels produce much more nasty stuff but we aren't talking about them here, and anyway we shouldn't focus on fixing only ONE thing. And to answer the other upset commenter, yes meat industry produces like 45% from the agricultural methane, but instead of inventing "anti-meat conspiracies" scientists look into actually reducing the methane production - for example seaweed-based cattle food can reduce it by 93% (yes you read that right). So yes, there are possible solutions and if they are successfully implemented they can bring a lot, just like the ozone layer erosion has been addressed by an international effort.
I'll admit it sounds a bit unhinged but there is a repeated pattern of "new technology discovered" leading to "old technology made illegal". Its going to happen with ICE cars [1], it has happened with ICE lawnmowers [2], its going to happen with gas stoves [3], heck, NYC might effectively ban coal fired pizza ovens in the chase of net zero [4]. I'm not a climate change denier but I am worried about this pattern continuing[5], making the average person's life worse off while not actually doing anything to combat the biggest sources of pollution because it would hurt international capital.
You are right that authorities try to push the burden on the small guy. Look at the paper straws "solution" - not a wrong idea per se but compared to the fishing nets it's merely a blip. Also the ovens do spread microparticles and are often forbidden during summer heat here in Switzerland. But. While all this is true and helping a little bit, yes, we should focus much more on the BIG causes of trouble, and cattle unfortunately are one of them, just like fossil fuels.
