I am wondering though: do you really want to host your own uptime monitoring? and if it’s down? I’d imagine that’s where it almost always better to have someone else host and manage it for you?

You usually want bidirectional monitoring on the monitoring server, so let an external service monitor your monitoring server and it should be cheap.

Sometimes it is less reliable as self hosted solution.
