The key thing is that your phone's voice and data service is offloaded to Wifi when possible, so you can use your phone from Timbuktu if there's wireless there. IE You don't even really need a data plan with them as long as you've got Wifi coverage.

Yeah, last I checked they had a $5 per month plan that's wifi only. You can still make calls and texts but you have to be on wifi. Not my thing, but they have it.
