I must have about 30-40 tabs I restore every day out of laziness and fear of bookmarking and never reading again. Someone posted to HN an extension to help with this but I forget what it's called. Also Firefox has a nice solution to your problem in that it only loads the tabs once you click on them.

I think it is already a option in the settings in the default installation of FF. Load upon selection.
