Yes, died essentially because the equipment wasn't as good back then (he was born in the late 1930s, died in the 1980s) as it is now. He also taught me to program when I was 7 (by pairing together on a ZX Spectrum!).

I'm sorry to hear. That he experienced so much pain and suffering, and that you lost him so young, is exactly the reason I can't feel sorry for myself (and no other diabetic should either).

Awesome that his hacker spirit lives on in you...
