I think the lack of comments/votes on this post is representative of how much this open source release-to-be really matters. Unfortunately, it's years too late.

im wondering why people weren't so sour about the open sourcing of doom or quake. i know it's kind of comparing an apple to a (non-chinese :) pear, but still... :)
