During my PhD (2011-2014), I had naive dreams of changing science (http://offtopicarium.wikidot.com/v1:open-science-2-0). Instead, I understood that I cannot change the world, but I can change myself - and moved to data science (https://p.migdal.pl/blog/2015/12/sci-to-data-sci).

So, I don't agree with that. While yes, you won't succeed - without this kind of idealism, academia is doomed.
