Talking to electricians, they gave me the impression that GFCI/AFCI had side-effects that were not related to an unsafe condition. Personally I've noticed buzzing or interference with some lighting on gfci circuits.

definitely true with dimmable LEDs. I have noticed that dimmable LEDs die in a year when running on a GFCI circuit. Solution is to find the junction and branch the switch/dimmer before the GFCI.
