My daily driver is also a (16GB) 2015 MBP and the only reason I’m starting to consider an upgrade is because of the scary “unsupported OS” warnings that brew is starting to show. I don’t really look forward to the day when that warning changes from “things could break at any time” to “your system is now broken”.

Mac hardware almost universally outlasts their software, which is a damn shame. Perfectly working hardware needs to eventually get thrown away because they can’t be bothered to keep their software working on it.

If there was one thing I would fix about the software industry with a magic wand it’s this constant need to be on a buying treadmill because software developers refuse to support legacy hardware.

You can still install latest macOS with some work.[1] If you have places for full backup. I have yet to encounter any issues. It will probably take a few hours of hassle which for a lot people is not worth it. I want to do it just to see how far I can get out of this machine. You may want to do some research before trusting my words.

Macports is always there once homebrew abandons you.

Or nixpkgs :-)
