Currently Japan Suica uses NFC-F ( Felica ) that is faster than all other form of NFC and works beautifully.

It seems they want the process to be even faster but completely eliminating the gate.

Keep thinking how will this work.

The max 30km/hr automatic tollroad gates opening (with ETC setup) is pretty cool using DSRC. Definitely not something that'd be implemented for train passengers, but it works beautifully, too.

If they really want to minimize congestion, slap a federal tax on public transportation, and make it free at the consumer end. Just walk on and walk off.

Public Transport serve a lot of tourist as well. Although one could argue Japan could also Tax on Visa coming in to the country.

Everyone leaving Japan (including Japanese people) pay 1000 yen tourist fee.
