Chinese troops fought in Vietnam didn't they?



Perhaps, but the Sino-Vietnamese War is nearing 40 years old by now. A lot of combat experience and grand strategy from then is completely irrelevant by now. Arguing over how much the basic infantry experience has changed from then to now is one thing, but gaining a significant naval and air power when your last major conflict had zero such thing is another.

That's primarily the reason why the PLA shouldn't be taken seriously. They are mechanizing their military with zero real idea what makes them any good.


There is no active personnel in the US Military with near peer conflict experience. Asymmetric battles do not transfer over to the most likely scenario of a war over Taiwan. This is at least what other top military people are saying, especially in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine


Any fight would be near China. They would have geography on their side.


Which is completely normal for the United States, whose military is expeditionary and has fought two simultaneous major wars on other continents in the past decade.
