Why doesn’t Wordpress or Medium count towards “indie blog”?

And what does “doing OK” even mean?

What this article really seems to saying is that “alternative blogging platforms, besides the majors like Wordpress & Medium - are doing ok”.

Not, as the title states, that “indie blogs are doing ok”

I just did this post [Link](https://blog.shedtheshade.com/i-couldnt-afford-5-mo-for-ghos...) Now that I think about it, there's several reasons as stated in the article that are truly impacting the blogging scene.

The other day I wrote that indie blogs are doing fine in response to [what happened to blogs](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40949636) on Hacker News. Now that I let the grump out, let me share some of my methods for finding these blogs.

The best method of finding those is to watch HN and any time you find an interesting blogpost check the whole web-blog for some extra thoughts.

Blogs can do alright, IF you are not continuously aiming to get huge viewcounts and comments from them. They are more niche. The only thing that's not that great is that often they have better content than SEO farms, but they are hard to find.

How do you think about Wordpress, is it any better than Mastodon?
