Alt Text box can't fit one screenshot of text

Hello everyone. I’ve noticed recently that the alt text box on Twitter can’t fit even close to one phone screenshots worth of text. Mastodon has a bit more space but it is still not enough. It seems like 1000 characters is not enough. Just to accommodate current phone screenshots, one might want a 10,000 character limit. You could imagine if you post the maximum resolution possible on a service, with the smallest possible text, what the real limit would be.

Interestingly there is some discussion for Mastodon with people asking the limit to be smaller, which raises the question as to the purpose of alt text, and how to properly handle larger text lengths in screen reader programs.
