Just in case it wasn't obvious from the article, there is a tar file with STL files for the controller from 'Thingiverse' and lightburn files for the wood parts as well as the 48x32 include file that drives the display and reads the joysticks, this is used to build all games upon. The file is here: https://jacquesmattheij.com/48x32.tar

If you make any improvements I'd love to hear about them, soon I'll have a gitlab repository up with all of the code related parts as well as a schematic for the hardware (though it is so simple that if you just read the include file you'll know exactly how to hook it all up).

Best of luck with any re-creation efforts, if you run into trouble feel free to mail me (email in profile).

That’s super neat! I’m curious though, did you manage to reduce screen time? Also, you were talking about creation, did your kids help you in any way on this project? To build the game maybe?

Hey there, sorry I missed your comment there was another thread on this project that took off and I thought this one had sunk without a trace. But apparently not quite :)

So, to start: yes, for some of them but not for all of them but it is still early days.

And yes on the second as well, in fact the youngest was the one that picked it up the quickest and has been really working with me to modify a game to his liking, and at some point he was making changes to the code and uploading them to Arduino while I wasn't looking. Definitely the high point of the project for me so far and in a way more than I hoped for because I thought he was a bit on the young side for this. But apparently I was wrong about that.

The next chapter is about to start when I have two of the units, it's waiting on a fume extraction system around the laser cutter (and it's terribly cold in my garage right now, too cold to work comfortably). But real soon now...

In the meantime, the git repository is up on gitlab and I'm well under way on writing a blog post about how you can program a simple game for the system. More soon, stay tuned, and thank you for the kind words.
