I told everyone this would happen and got called a xenopbobe. If you align yourself with dictatorships, you lose agency for access to a large market. I don't think it is worth it, but publicly traded companies have a hard time saying no to expansion, no matter how ill-advised.
Other companies like Disney are in the same kid of binge. People say that Elon Musk is unhinged, but I don't think he is. He knows people he must bow to if he wants to make money. Hollywood can be woke except when it comes to China, Saudi Arabia (or Scientology.)
People capitalists can't insult in the free world: Xi from China and MSB from Saudi Arabia.

I’ve never seen anyone call Musk unhinged for kowtowing to China. It’s usually for all the other stuff he has complete control over, like most Twitter decisions which objectively lost money.

Knowing whose boots to lick is not separate from being unhinged. You can be wildly irrational about some things but not others.
In fact, there’s an argument to be made that kowtowing to an authoritarian regime and exploiting fellow human beings just to make absurd amounts of money you’ll never be able to spend is itself nonsensical.
