It's a shame that this is flagged while the front page is with few exceptions populated with irrelevant things.

A vocal number of technologists believe that we should talk only of positive things because this will make the world a better place. Truth is that they are fortunate and can afford to live in fantasy, disconnected from reality.

While this is good for their own mental health. I don't think that those building dangerous tools with potential to create dire consequences should have this right. Humanity will pay the cost of being smart but unwise.

There's a tension here:

If you don't insulate yourself from world news, it will drive you crazy. Most of it is not actionable anyway. Then again, people have made the mistake of believing "nothing has happened so far, so nothing will happen" time and time again.

As Sebastian Haffner describes the outbreak of World War I in his book "Defying Hitler":

"The last world war, with which my conscious life begins as if with a bang, hit me as it hit most Europeans: During the summer vacations."

I totally agree with you. The current overflow of disinformation context doesn't help a bit but there must be a middle ground. I personally I'm slowly going crazy. I'm probably consuming more information related to this war than I need or should. I have some ideas on how to use software to balance things but haven't put the effort. News Minimalist is helpful but not enough.

So many rumours. Did Belarus just negotiate a settlement with Wagner?

Prigozhin: "I have not agreed to any proposals from President Lukashenko of Belarus." - https://twitter.com/ResearcherTiger/status/16726581343039283...

That channel is fake.

Gray zone that’s linked here confirms the stop.

They have stopped based on a preliminary deal brokered by Belarus.

There was absolute radio silence from the Kremlin until the afternoon. I am sure he made good use of this time to flee the sinking ship like a rat.

Seems kind of surprising the regular military didn't seem prepared to meet a challenge like that quickly on the way (not like I'd expect much regard for civilians or civilian infrastructure getting in the way), but I guess that's been a repeated theme too...

Their military is in Ukraine. What's elsewhere isn't really combat effective--if it were it would have been sent to Ukraine.

Seems like Putin and Prigozhin were working together to effect a change in military leadership.

Will Putin push the button? And what would NATO do if Russia nukes itself?

I don't get this line of questioning. There's like thousands of more realistic and down to earth scenarios to emerge from this situation.

The only thing "nuclear" I'm currently somewhat expecting is a false flag nuclear catastrophe at Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine by one of the many actors in play right now where everyone may have an angle to profit from that happening.

Why would you nuke yourself?
