Twitter expands “community notes” feature to images (twitter.com/communitynotes)

This seems to me like an excellent idea for addressing a lot of the concerns people have about AI-generated images contributing to the spread of disinformation. I wonder if the concept could be expanded to all images on the web using a browser extension or similar.

It would be great if Elon could be trusted with it. But we already know his agenda with Twitter is to push right-wing, "anti-woke" speech and he has already used the platform to promote and spread disinformation, such as mislabeling NPR as a "state owned" media organization (because the right believes it to be essentially an organ of Democratic Party propaganda) and promoting fake accounts of AOC.

What seems likely to happen is fake images that serve right-wing bias will sneak past the filter, while real images that counter that bias will be marked as fake. That seems to be the level of immature chicanery that Twitter under Elon is currently steeping to.

Was very skeptical around community notes [0] and gave it some time for it to be used and it turns out that it's seems to be a very good idea to crowdsource and off-load to the community and flag content that is misleading, faked or disinformation and the best part is, everyone is subject to that.

Like the Retweet, another great useful Twitter innovation.

Yeah, I would have thought they'd be abused as a sort of "super reply" to any tweet that goes against whatever narrative is popular on Twitter, but in practice it feels a little more like Wikipedia; there's still occasional bias but everything's usually at least mostly objective and phrased in a neutral tone.
