It’s not just “some” government official saying something that makes us “uncomfortable”.
It’s a person who was handpicked for the specific reason that they did not follow science and were promoting quack theories, continuing to promote their quack ideas we know to be false.
I think anybody at this point defending hydroquinone and ivermectin, in the face of the available data, is not "following the science". And people complaining there are huge side effects to the vaccines are also, not "following the science". Running trials and evaluating clinical data to make policy during an emergency is non-trivial, but casting doubt like this isn't helpful.
