No, the 2 in WSL2 refers to the generation (i.e. the one with VM architecture). This release simply "graduates" WSL2 from pre-release (0.xx days in quasi-semantic versioning). It's still WSL2 and for most intents and purposes the specific version of the package should be irrelevant, especially if one is using the Store-published version. It's not the only moving part anyway, as WSLg and the kernel are updated separately.
Strange naming sequence. I thought it was a commemorative post about the anniversary of the first WSL, or something like that.
