The American constitutional system didn’t envision the situation we find ourselves in now.
The weaponization of mass political speech for a second time is a big problem. The first time (circa 1920-1950) was easier to control as broadcasters had a many to one model. Today, the government failed to leverage regulation of social media.
So here we are. Reactionary business interests leverage semi-autonomous evangelical Christian communities, WSJ republicans and fanatics who believe that reptilian aliens from a 1980s TV show are controlling a global network of Democratic Party functionaries/child molesters and globalist Jewish people to do whatever.
On the opposing side, you have traditional moderate “big tent” political machinery. Everyone from unionists, to LGBTQ+, to African Americans, to moderates to more progressive or radical people with a long tail of issues.
The problem is the “simple message” of the right can be turned up and down depending on the audience. The “big tent” of mainstream politics is more complex. Many of the groups in the “big tent” don’t see eye to eye.
