So OP (of the reddit post) hasn't shown the offending material in question and the source of this post is from the Ben Shapiro subreddit? I'm going to need a bit more proof than that.

It doesn't even look like it has been removed. Restricted probably means you cannot share it, but it is still in your drive.

[flagged]

Does that really add to the conversation?

Wow. That is incredible. I don’t want Google inspecting my files for “hate speech” or any other thought crime. I am absolutely canceling my Google drive subscription.

Remember to encrypt your backups when uploading to the cloud.

Makes sharing files less convenient however.

If I need to share something "sensitive" an encrypted 7zip file with the password provided out-of-band is usually the simplest solution.

I usually strongly oppose Big Tech's attempts of surveillance of private digital goods like cloud files, emails etc.

But context is important: here we're talking of the delirium of a man with serious mental health problems who spent half an hour ranting about Jews, black people and migrants, bringing back antisemitic conspiracy theories that hadn't been around since the times of the Nazis, and repeating that Jesus is the only path to salvation.

Why on earth would anybody be allowed to waste precious cloud storage and bandwidth to store and watch such disgusting trash?

Ok, but how are his views substantially different from those of a large fraction of the American voters?

A large fraction of the German population in the 1930s was also in favour of incarcerating people on the basis of their ethnicity, sexual orientation or political opinions. That doesn't mean that giving those people airing time was a good idea. Just because many people support something despicable, it doesn't mean that we should let them spread those ideas. Tolerant societies really ought to raise their immune defences against intolerant ideas if they want to survive.

It sounds like you're fundamentally opposed to democratic societies then.

Popper's paradox of tolerance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance) is actually the only way to defend the functioning of a democratic society.

Weird, it's still up on YouTube. Maybe driven by flagging and different algorithms across the two platforms.

Just a guess but Google probably fear repercussions from their investors and business partners. Such things can be found on other smaller video hosting sites and of course 4chan.

Another guess is that there was a broad political directive from the administration, which is enforced by the private monopoly. My guess is as good as yours.

Or maybe those at the top at Google happen to believe that it's their duty to protect the world from "wrongthink" and they are just doing what they believe is best.
