there are probably a zillion case studies we could look at, but i don't think the UN and HRW and others would be calling for the US to restore funds if they thought it wouldn't help save babies by the thousands (or more).
that 13,000 number of dead babies/children is since January -- so, less than three months.
the US is basically saying, ok, the Taliban is in power, and is not giving women and girls equal rights, so we'll just kill as many people as we can, including children. if the Taliban doesn't become the type of society we want, we'll just keep killing. this is just what we do.
i think most western-type folks, maybe most folks in the world, want equal rights (or more) for women and girls -- but they can't have equal rights if they're not alive -- so i say let people live, including women and girls, and we'll engage with the taliban and do the best we can to achieve equal rights for women and children.
we don't have equal rights in the US and we're not starving and killing-through-sanctions tens of thousands of children.
well, we do it in other ways, but it's on another level in Afghanistan, and we're largely reponsible.
...this guy is saying much of the funds can be distributed thru the UN directly to doctors, nurses, public hospitals, etc. he says sanctions can be lifted at least with 'humanitarian corridors' of the sanctions, like we're using against Venezuela, etc. the UN says they'll do it as soon as their member states do it -- which means as soon as the US says the UN can do it.
...and the US is still the leader in funds going to Afghanistan, but it's hundreds of millions instead of billions.
...this one activist, Masuda Sultan, said we could just release some funds -- $5M or $10M -- and see what happens. if the funds were misused, we could stop the flow. easy. makes sense to me.
i also didn't realize how much of a jack this was -- meaning, all the money that the US stole from Afghanistan -- we literally stole it -- we jacked it -- half of Afghanistan's reserves that were in the US. something like that. loco.
