I am unable to view the linked overview [1] of this privacy preserving technology - Google demands I sign in to view the document. Not a good start.

My guess is that this is because it was publicly editable and was being vandalised, according to this comment: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30306105

Feels like it would have been better for them to make it view-only/editable by specific people rather than hiding the entire thing, but there you go.


I'm sure they had practical reasons, but the point is that privacy wasn't even considered.
