MVT over MVP: Use this process to evaluate startup ideas before building (firstround.com)

I find these articles very irritating, it’s always pedantic nitpicking at a narrow definition of a word or process to then pitch some “thought leadership” content that is merely a marginal iteration of the concept they spend the intro criticizing.

Between the need for titles to be somewhat catchy and the need for ongoing content, we are really at odds with how knowledge is actually supposed to grow once a discipline is pretty mature, and this just creates noise to slog through.

What is called MVT here is really product strategy. Jobs to be done, value propositions, etc. That's what you base your business strategy on, and product is a tool to implement that strategy. This is how you know what to include in your MVP and how you evaluate its performance accordingly. So this piece is basically just saying, don't forget to have a strategy before you build your minimum viable product.
