I currently use Vagrant+Virtualbox extensively on my intel Mac (mbp 2015). I'm also waiting for the new M2 model but the lack of Virtualbox for the ARM architectures is a bummer. I was looking for alternatives to Vagrant+VirtualBox on M1 and I just found out that Hashicorp released (a few months ago?!) the Vagrant VMware plugin as open source! (I think the price for the plugin was before like 80 USD or so). Besides that, VMware Fusion Player is also free for personal use on the Mac. Afaik, VMware is also working on supporting the ARM architecture; so I think I have found the replacement I was looking for :)
