The table of contents is typically not an index. An index is something else found at the end of the book.



It's still an index though right? Just an index of chapters and not key words right?


I agree that you could technically say the table of contents is an index (comparing it to a DB index), but because "index" also means something completely different in this context I would avoid using the term this way.
