Ahaha. Seriously though, I may have I merely worked amongst CS/MD IITians and Pac12/Ivy postdocs, yet I never heard Mensa ever brought-up except as the butt of a joke. I think there's a subset of borderline gifted people who greatly overestimate their abilities (Dunning-Kruger+?) and are insecure enough that they need artificial external validation other than meaningful achievement, along with in-group exclusivity, in-order to feel special.
To me, they seem like fragile, and possibly histrionic as a consequent, individuals who I wouldn't want around, like that one psycho roommate who bragged about being accepted to a US branch of said organization (or my biological father, haha). With that particular roommate, I let them think they were a genius and obscured myself to not threaten their delicate ego until I was able to extricate myself. Maybe it's anecdotal, but I think insecure people who think they're smart tend to be more trouble than otherwise (hubristic) and cannot handle anyone else with equal or superior abilities in any domain(s). It's almost analogous to jealousy vs. compersion, but more extreme.
