Common Lisp with SBCL compiles to very efficient code, it can be comparable to C, for example. For multicore support, I'm sure there are good libraries available - lparallel maybe? (

How is it with immutable-only message-passing concurrency and parallelism? How transparent is it?
If we're talking naked OS threads, that's not efficient or impressive though.
