Strange, I could've sworn I've read recently that the WebGL2 compute effort had been halted because WebGPU is (more or less) around the corner.

Yet the linked document has been updated just a few weeks ago.

But that's just because they come from the same WebGL spec repo. The 2.0-compute spec indeed hasn't been updated for a year. I imagine it was halted because WebGL 2 never saw great adoption to begin with. Though even Apple / WebKit is finally adding it, because I think they realized that WebGPU is going to take how many more years to pan out. What a disappointment.

If I am not mistaken, Google is the one doing the contributions to WebKit.
