I would attribute it to recent culture of ROI grown in high leadership of the company. They don't understand patience, values, human relationships and necessary soft skills to realise that Innovation and research are vital health of the company. Problem is they are all fast thinkers and great presenters and that's what js valued nowadays in orgs. The innovators and researchers can't sustain in this environment. The leadership wants ROI from everything, even research. That's not going to create a good culture and innovation wouldn't grow.
