CentOS/RHEL didn’t ship with it forever (at least to 7), I don’t know if that changed with 8 but it was one of the reasons I learned enough vi to be dangerous, as I had to debug a bunch of weird networking stuff on VM guests that were CentOS 5.5.


You might be happy to know that Fedora recently changed Nano to the default editor, which means it will likely land in RHEL as the default eventually.


I beleive Fedora 33 is defaulting to nano, so based on that so is RHEL
