I always interleave my responses:

  A: Because otherwise it doesn't make sense
  Q: Why do questions always come before answers?

my coworkers are notorious for this, you often get emails like:

>> 1. What is the performance impact?

[john doe] this depends on the anticipated load...

are you talking about facebook email? does it prevent you from quoting text?
