I wonder why YouTube has to be the go-to source for useful video in the first place. Seems steps like this drive important content to other, hopefully more privacy-conscious platforms.

This is a bigger loss for YouTube than the security community.

Important and profitable are very different categories; driving away important content is not, in itself, harmful to a business.

For the same reason Google became #1 in search: it's easier to look for something in one place than half a dozen miscellaneous places.


Video metasearch (as with DDG) is one way to obviate this.
