80s BASIC (GW-Basic, to be specific) was, right up to his retirement two years ago, my fathers go-to language for anything work related. It was "good enough" for the job, cheaper and faster than trying to get their software department to understand the problem needing solving, and it was what he knew -- including it's limitations and when not to use it.
Old, "bad" languages can still be extremely powerful and productive for what used to be called "power users"; don't dismiss them out of hand because the professional software development world has moved on.
