Microsoft Blocking Electron Apps from the App Store (getpolarized.io)

Consider it a blessing! You don't need Microsoft's supervision or approval to distribute a Windows app, even if it is Electron.

Who uses the Windows store, anyway?

50% of app users discovery their apps on app stores.

I'm trying to work on growth and steady acquisition of users and I'm trying to test if this is true.

"App stores" is generic term. If you are looking at mobile, I'm sure the number is more than 50%. There is no possible way that 50% of Windows apps come from the Windows store.

Hoax, considering that visual code is based on electron. Don't have to read the article to know this

Ha... dude. Are you calling me a liar?

Where does it mention Electron?

Browsing the web and using Electron are 2 different things. Last time I checked, all your assets can be included in the bundle

Would seem unlikely that they have blocked it just for using Electron as they are using Electron for newer apps such as Microsoft Teams and Azure Storage Explorer.

I'm hoping so... I tweeted it and mentioned Microsoft and Electron so hopefully this is a confusion.

The issue might be that we render HTML but still seems heavy handed as why couldn't I just decide to build my own browser?

I mean I don't want to but I should be able to if I wanted.

Title is misleading. The article is about ONE app being blocked.

Of course... I have no way to measure other apps but I also link to the policies which would block them.

Other apps would also be blocked.

Title not misleading ;)

> Other apps would also be blocked.

Surely then you're not the only one who would speak up. Also, if an app isn't browsing the web, but is written in Electron (many fall into this category) then it would be unaffected by this policy.

So at the very least your title should be "Microsoft Policies Blocking Electron Apps That Browse the Web". But I understand that doesn't generate as many clicks.

Gotta get those clicks!

My app doesn't really 'browse the web' honestly and it also shouldn't matter.

If I wanted to build a full Electron browser and ship it in the app store I should be able to.
