Ignoring the lack of available materials to put a huge battery in every home, the cost is currently about a quarter of the median yearly income across the EU. Adding that much cost to every home is a non-starter.

Which will result in far less new construction.

The construction industry employs millions directly and indirectly. Those poeple vote.

Politicians may be dumb about a lot of things, but few are dumb enough to intentionally threaten the livelihood of millions of voters.
