I think it's a matter of taste. I find seeing boot messages about services starting up etc. more aesthetically pleasing than some logo. It reminds me of people who buy mechanical watches where the gears are visible. Seeing the underlying bits of a complex system exposed can certainly be appealing to some people.
I am exactly the kind of person who buys watches where the gears are visible, and I even use gear-shaped watch faces on my smartwatches, so yeah maybe this whole thread is just me being me.
I do also turn off the splash screen in linux so that I can watch the service startups fly by.
