I'd read it before, but re-reading it after reading Pullum's essay gave me an interesting new perspective on what DFW and Garner are talking about. Of course, the essay doesn't disagree (or agree) with DFW's prescription for SWE; it mostly just concerns itself with what AAVE actually is.

I think that the fundamental idea that AAVE and SWE are distinct things with their own prescriptions is pretty strong agreement.
