You think existing incentives for open source work could equate to $20,000/year? Two orders of magnitude is a lot.



It seems reasonable that being a core developer of R could land you at least $20k in consulting contracts.


I don't know the amount, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if the authors of popular open source libraries boosted their earning power by that much or more.


$70,000 is also two orders of magnitude larger
