I relate to that and I think the real reason some people struggle to believe that is because not everyone has a great work environment at work. I have one, I actually look forward to coming to the office sometimes.

Stuff other than AI starts to break if you try to copy/paste that much text in one go - I put a soft limit at 500 so people wouldn't go paste in their PhD dissertation and watch Word crash on them.

How would you do it? , 15 minutes to reply, no google, no stackoverflow.


Let me clarify, when I perform interviews, I tell my candidates they can do _everything_ you would do in a normal job, including using AI and googling for answers.

But just to humor you (since I did make that strong statement), without googling or checking anything, I would start with basic regular expression ranges (^[A-za-z\s\.\-*]) etc and do a find-replace on that until things looked coherent without too much loss of words/text.

But the problem isn't me, is it? It's the AI companies and their crawlers, that can trivially be changed to get around this. At the end of the day, they have access to all the data to know exactly which unicode sequences are used in words, etc.

In all reality I spent like 30 minutes on this one Sunday afternoon when every model failed nearly 100% of the time - now it's more like 95% but about half figure out that there is something wrong and prompt the user to fix it. This isn't meant to be a permanent fix at all - just a cool idea that will be patched just like DANs were back in 2023.

In Germany/Austria most workers are on collective bargaining agreements (different and specific for each industry, incl IT) which is regulated by unions plus org-specific councils (Betriebsräte in AT/DE, similar in other countries). Similar for Switzerland, also Collective labour agreements in Netherlands. Seems to be similar in Spain and France but these I didn't have experience with. Isn't it a regular complaint that American tech workers don't get the kinds of benefits they would in Europe, especially healthcare? Even someone with a very nice American salary can be bankrupted by medical expenses very easily in America. When Americans do end up bankrupt it's usually medical debt that is to blame.

It seems like there should be room for a happy medium somewhere where some workers in the US maybe don't get the same salaries but are also not having to spend so much on healthcare, get more time with their families, get better just protections, etc. Once you make enough money that you're not really worried about meeting your bills and can pretty much buy what you want the peace of mind is more important than the bragging rights you get over who has a bigger paycheck.

I'm in EU, on my 2023 Civic it's off by default and needs to be enabled after every car start if you wanna use it. Also works pretty well, other than when driving straight into the low sun or in heavy rain at night. The collision warning and road departure warning are on by default, the last one can be disabled until car is restarted.

AI training data is in short supply from new sources. Chat and group apps are handy for many reasons, but one obvious one is people posting images with caption text they provide basically does your image tagging for free (remember the original big image model was just a list of URLS with useful alt-text descriptions).
