Been thinking a lot about tools for modern musicians/artists/producers. Not tools for creating the music but tools for communication. Email subscriber lists, event creation (image and text) combined with ability to generate QR codes and send them with easy to use dashboard, some kind of insights into the QR scans, merchandise (integrations with Shopify), hn style link aggregation around music.. been building it with my son who also becomes my product manager since he the one using the tools. For now a private repo consisting of a rails API and a react TS frontend app. Everyday I come up with some small improvements in my head but alas not enough time in the world. With the day job an all, this is purely a passion project and a way to help my son follow his passion, putting on house music events and DJ/producing. Except.. people do know exactly how these things work. They know because they are creating them. They know because they are improving them. What nonsense to say we do not know how these things work. Engineers building Qwen for example not only know how things work but they put all the work out there for people to reproduce (if they had the means) that work.
We know in the same sense we understand the rules in Conway's game of life - at low level - but don't understand what those rules will produce at high level (gliders, guns) except by executing and seeing. Analogous to knowing what the code looks like and not knowing if it will halt.
Knowing the low level rules, or the recursive transition rule of a system does not tell you its evolution in time.

That’s kinda happening, small local models, huggingface communities, civit ai and image models. Lots of hobby builders trying to make use of generative text and images. It just there’s not really anything innovative about text generation since anyone with a pen and paper can generate text and images.
I think it is, before it was built into Logic I had a little script setup that would use Meta Demucs. I would use it on my own tracks so I could remix (especially old ones which I had no stems for). It’s also great for sampling and experimentation
Yeah, I think four of the founders/initial employees were ex-Ableton people, it was a thing that was highlighted when Bitwig first launched (around 2014 maybe?), together with that they were also Berlin-based (because that matters...) and it had Linux support from day one :)
I'm not finding any first-hand sources about it, but remember that most articles at the time mentioned it one way or another.
All of us humans are fundamentally racist, spammy, and have some form of hate in us. Depending on the state of society, it can suppress or bring it out. Anonymous boards like this bring out the worst in all of us.
Just as the current administration has catered to our bigoted, racist selves. Anonymous boards have more or less the same effect.
Let’s just call it like it is, Vibe coding takes away the thinking of the execution of steps to solve the problem and offloads that part of our mind to a text generator with intelligent emergent properties. If you enjoy keeping the intelligence sharp for laying out the steps to solve the problem and executing the steps then don’t vibe code. If you don’t mind the engineering skills atrophy then go ahead and vibe code. But know this. You will lose the skills.

I don't see why it's an either or. As explained in the article, I'm still coding all day. Just some trivial PRs are getting done and tidied up while I'm doing so. You still have to do all of the code review, and you still have to solve all of the hard problems, you just do less of the refactoring by hand.
