not committing now = keeping your options open. it's smart. usually who has more different available moves is in a better situation. money are not going anywhere and if EU doesn't urgently need them it's a nice bonus in future.
That was a very narrow window of time, mostly the time between the fall of the USSR ending the Cold War up to 9/11, so about a 10 years period since the end of WW2.
Before that the USA was aiding and fostering violent dictatorships, helping them to perform coups all around if they were amenable to the US's interests (aka: they were anti-commies) like in Latin America, Iran itself, etc.; bombing countries where their right-wing coups failed like in Vietnam during its independence period after French rule, for example.
There were fuckups too but the declared goals were usually not bad. Now declared goals seem bad. The language is the language of hate. It's a big change. and this is not north korea. Coming from the most powerful country that set planet scale humanity trends in the world for decades its very very bad for the world.
If you think they only took one shot, you're not a digital photographer)
In this special situation you get as many as you can a few dozen at least. Then only publish the one that looks the best. If it's f4 then f4 worked best.
> Weakening your own domain to get powerful sounds clearly contradictory
No because it's relative. If people around you get weak then you get more powerful automatically. If you get more powerful and people around you also get more powerful then you are in the same situation.
So if power is what you want you destroy others at the same time as building your power. What trump is doing is logical. He isn't living in china or russia. he doesn't care if they get stronger. he cares if people around get weaker relative to him and cronies who are in on it. and that works
I bought an EV like a week before this whole thing started. It's been pretty surreal to see everyone talking about skyrocketing gas prices and I haven't once needed to fill up a tank.
Reminds me a bit of immediately after 9/11 where I had a full tank and drove by the station and saw super long lines. One of those "I lucked out and am insulated from this"
