very similar to my own experiment on Ender 3 and also to the tons of posts on reddit
Actually, the ender experience is more a lego experience when you have to buy tons of add ons, upgrades, days to learn systems & paramters in slicers & firmwares.
Also think about the Ender 3 burning PSU trend 4 years ago.
times to times, another comment pop on reddit such as "i own 12 ender 3 and sell my production, never did a single upgrade, printing at 50mm and it works like a charm since day one" but it's not majority
I believe one of the big point missed is that community contribution totally disapeared of the public internet.
In the past you were able to find anything you want by just typing anything in google, on all the forums & microblogs.
That content disapeared from internet, replaced by discord & instagram, which are not public.
Reddit is the main community remaining public, this is why people are typing "pizza reddit" while the main contributions are not on the reddit community but on the the discord from the pizza reddit.
So now, when you want to go deep into the topic pizza, you have to:
--> go to the pizza reddit
--> get the discord adress
--> connect to the redditPizza discord
--> search "mozzarella" on the shitty discord search
and don't forget the "i lost my bitcoin password so i lost all my assets" and "my hard drive has been destroyed so i lost all my bitcoins"
All those stories were solved across 120y of crisis and financials regulations. Not all of course, but finance, as a basis of the XXI century economy is far more robust that it was
Uh, yeah. Why do people act like this is a bad thing?
I’m a big fan of the fact that when someone is pissed off at me they’re not allowed to just punch me in the face. I’m also a big fan of the fact that someone CAN metaphorically punch me in the face if I manage to piss off a whole slew of people, elected by and comprised of my compatriots, with various systems designed to mitigate emotionality and unfairness.
Duh this is a strictly good thing, when paired with democracy.
not sure I want to live in a world where violence is evenly distributed, look at the US right now. that is still only a small number of shootings a day. imagine when there is no monopoly on violence, you won't be able to do anything but join a militia or work as a slave to a local militia
I'm just pointing out those "120 years of evolution" are not about some clever solutions but the state forcibly preventing hustlers from parting fools and their money so the legitimacy of state parting everyone and their money isn't questioned.
Believe it or not, even with a monopoly in violence you still have to create clever solutions, even more so when you're trying to broadly preserve liberty as opposed to just being a dictator.
* Unfortunatly, to drive the temperature, you need... something to drive it which was not deployed: you cannot plug a NEST and plugin in in a thermostat is complex
* In recent years, DIY based solutions based on Home Automation or Shelly were deployed by DIY communities but hey this require high skills & dedicated server (synology like), and sometime soldering. There is no plug and play solution on the market
* Heatzy.com proposed a wifi based solution but you can only do On/Off, not select a target temperature (so this is useless)
So having a single wifi small box to plug on the heater to drive the target temperature is a game changer
--> Since i'm looking at this market every years since 2013, it has not evolved until this post on hcknews! Very happy to see this solution coming! you made my day! (unfortunatly we're at the end of winter :))
I don't understand why you can't just have some wiki/bluetooth/RF/powerline module that turns your electric heater on and off depending on a signal from some random home automation controller?
"fil pilote" was probably useful in the 90s but it sounds outdated to me.
not listed here but some guys owned old ATARI computers on which they implemented Minitel servers with a toll free phone number. Some were famous for their HP48 calculator community (and were in relationship with HP to organize HP Party)
Most famous names were RTC ONE and PULSAR. They were really a pre-internet community with forum & chat. Crazy people at crazy times and exciting time in my life.
interesting, does that mean that there is a part of 'active' pinterest users who take time to add tags to pics, letting pinterest to categorize a lot of pictures and let the google ranking higher?
i just clicked on the link just how to check how can i remove pinterest from my search results. Then i control-F to search other people looking for remove pinterest and it seems i'm not alone :)
Pinterest is like pihole: it get all the trafic but the difference is that they keep it for them. As other people are descripting it here, it is a nightmare of a darkpattern.
Yesterday, i came randomly (through a french newsletter) to this website https://business.pinterest.com/en/pinterest-predicts/ , they sell that they have 400m users WW and 12 'active' users in France (lol). Meanwhile, their trending dashboard is not uninteresting, and reading it would give you the possibility to see what they do with their data (i'm a curious guy). But having the possibility to delete all pinterest links from my search, forerever it an absolute gain of quality of life
same answer from my perspective, i did not iron a lot during the last year because of lockdows but i see nice machines using steam. The sound is the same as a nespresso machine so i believe that it is based on the same steam generation technology, opposed to the brass tank steam generation process used in quality espresso machines & professional irons.
