A soccer mom I know shared that she once tried TikTok. Within seconds of installing the app, the algorithm was showing nsfw content. She uninstalled it.
I assume that the offending content was popular but hadn’t been flagged yet and that the algorithm was just measuring her interest in a trending theme; it seems like it would be bad for business to intentionally run off mainstream users like that.
People have had luck playing it via Whiskey/WINE, but I would hate for you to spend money and find out it's not a great solution, so I can't encourage it.
14 years ago on HN a domain name generator launched called Impossibility (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1874465), as a bloke with a fair few side projects I really enjoyed the speed and simplicity
The site shut down a few years ago (and the domain name was bought by a porn site hence @dang having to remove the URL) and I've not found a service that replicates it to my liking.
So, I rebuilt it, I've got a few tweaks still to make but I'm pleased with the current speed and simplicity of it.
Hey HN, Dom here, since the launch of https://littlewarden.com on Show HN a few years ago, we've added a lot of new features but we've always wanted to have a free tier (to get some attention).
We decided that going back and making LW work with thousands of free users wouldn't be the best use of our time but we could use the core API of Little Warden and build another website from it thus Free Domain Alerts was born.
Simon (and Nat of course) are one of the most inspirational (smartest and loveliest) couples I've encountered in all the weird tech events..
Their honeymoon, creation of Lanyrd and then eventual sale was a lovely story to follow over the years (and it's certainly part of an inspiration to our latest project)
