This thread is bizzare, full of commenters who pretend not to understand why the OP post doesn't prove anything. It's not the first pro-Lebanon anti-Israel post either in the last few days.
Not the guy you're responding to, but when this happens the token counter is frozen at some low value (eg. 1k-10k) value as well, so it's not thinking in circles but rather not thinking (or doing anything, for that matter) at all.
i was having this issue yesterday. the same prompt would send it into a loop where it would appear to be doing nothing for 30+ minutes until i cancelled it. it would show 400 tokens used and thats it.
I tested on a previous version (2.1.68) and it still ran into this neverending loop BUT at least the token count kept steadily increasing.
So we are seeing 1. some sort of model degredation is my guess (why it can't break a thinking loop on some problems), as well as 2. a clear drop in thinking token UI transparency
when i left it running overnight it finally sent a message saying it exceeded the 64000 output token limit
Yes, social media creates useful idiots, you are correct. And also possibly one of them, if you're arguing that it somehow makes people smarter or more informed.
If I understand them correctly, the proposals are quite different. The US is effectively requiring the implementation of a third party verification service at computer set-up. The EUs approach validates an existing cryptographic identity that says you are over a certain age, without exposing your identification.
Please correct me if I am wrong, this is what I read here.
Yes. They haven't had a problem implementing their own specific regulations before - like alternative app store requirements on iOS or the European editions of Windows.
I have a private Gitea exactly for stuff like that and Gitea can mirror GitHub repos out of the box and keep it in sync (and it's Git so you can always revert).
Happy for Mario, Pi is the best harness I've ever tried. But overall disappointed by this decision. "This time everything is different" until it's not.
Mario maintains the project pro bono, which is only possible because he had an exit a couple of years ago. I believe it is a lot of work making sure that the quality of the codebase doesn't detoriate with the onslaught of slop that is hitting open source projects right now.
Additionally, I have massive respect for Armin and I don't believe Earandil is your typical VC startup that wants to grow no matter what.
I don't understand. Why the disappointment? Pi is still open source. Nothing is changing. Earendil's majority owners have a perfect track record when it comes to open source. Armin is a super star in the Python and Rust ecosystems.
I’m not disappointed. It seems philosophically the teams are aligned and Pi as a project can continue and be supported. It’s a better outcome than most could expect.
I can just see you telling that to a slave in 1830. What? You don't like slavery? Don't you see that you have to expect the slave owners to act in accordance with the incentives god gave them and force you to gather cotton until your hands bleed? change it or cope dude. Or someone watching from the hills as the horde of Gengis Khan torches their city and puts everyone they've ever known to the sword - those mongols are activing in accordance with incentives! Change it or cope!
Incredible irresponsible of Google to unleash these "overviews" to the public, they are very often straight up wrong not to mention that the UX is horrible because the page keeps reflowing when you scroll down. They also seem to use a very bad version of Gemini, the "AI Mode" is way better in comparison.
