Software Developer with about 8 years of experience.

I've been out of work for a little while now so any new opportunity would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

I taught myself to code in high-school, entering my first job was daunting but I remember just sitting back and absorbing information like a sponge. Obviously I came in with some fundamental knowledge and I was working with a language I had been using personally for years but if I had any advice for someone who's new it's to just sit back and learn as much as you can. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

I haven't seen this at all, I'm currently contracting and I see rates anywhere from 63.50 per hour to 80+. Depending on the locale and whether we're talking FAANG or not those are pretty good rates. (130-150+ respectively)

$150 per hour is very low.

I've never seen anything close to $150/hr -- I'd jump on that if I did. $63-$80/hr is actually about what I'm seeing, which is less than I'd made from my last FTE gig (I have 16 yoe, mind you). When you consider those rates don't include PTO and benefits, it's even worse.

Contracting is the thing you do when you're between permanent jobs and you do it because it pays better than slinging coffee and keeps your resume current.

contracting is being in business for yourself which means you need to learn how to sell and negotiate. if you don’t do that then yes, you will work for a low rate.

That's 130,000-150,000 annually if you clock 40 hours 5 days a week, not hourly.

I don't know in what universe you think $150 per hour is low, I've never seen anything near that rate. Maybe for highly specialized work but not any general purpose development.

cost of living in US metros is extremely high. and you need to pay for the cost of being self employed.

150k is still a great wage in most major US metros. The bay is expensive, but this is still a top-10% compensation package compared to the general population.

150/hr would be great in europe, and companies do pay it, not to individual contractors, but to other companies

I wholeheartedly disagree, would you feel unwelcome at an Asian restaurant or a place that serves authentic Mexican food?

Simply creating a space that caters to culture specific creativity is a good thing, and as others have pointed out its been done before with BET.

Can we open source the Olympics?

No. The Olympics are a commercial operation owned by the IOC. NBC has sole US broadcasting rights until 2032.

What would this even mean?

I'm not a psychologist, but I think narcissism and self-importance simply stem from a small world view.

If your main hobby/recreational activity in life is smoking weed (certainly not judging anyone) then you'll likely only associate with people who enjoy the same things, if anyone at all.

This leads to a very narrow world-view where you're the center of that world. Going out and meeting people, doing different activities, taking on new jobs and roles, going to school and getting an education all really help to humble people and make people realize that most of us are all very similar in our pursuit of happiness.

On the contrary, it could also be a universal human emotion in the same way that people are awe-struck when they visit the Grand Canyon or Redwood Forest.

It could end up being a very therapeutic endeavor for the average person if space-tourism becomes more accessible, putting people's problems in perspective.

I'm assuming the pilot could convince the union to fund the litigation if Delta tries to drag their feet, that's kind of what unions are for.

It's not odd, we're coming off of a global pandemic where people were commuting less, saving more (no daycare, not eating out), and collecting stimulus checks. Meanwhile, the businesses that should have failed because of the drop in consumer spending were kept alive with PPP loans.

At the same time, companies like Tesla and Micro-strategy are pouring billions into a new finite asset class.

There's simply more cash flowing into the system, it's just run of the mill inflation.

"Send to Bottom" of the help box is hilarious

It took me way longer than I wanted to admit to figure out how to get rid of that, and then it starts slowly.... crawling.... downwards....
