I've been using influads for 3 months now and haven't faced any of those problems. I can see my daily stats, and have a variety of ads served by them. And even though I didn't had a high traffic blog, still they accepted me, that means something to me.

Also, adsense may be a good chocie for you, but I'll perhaps never use it. I like to have a single tiny add on my website, which is atleast somewhat related to what I write. Besides, having larger ads, or too many ads, just spoils the reading experience. For me, providing a good reading experience to my readers is as important as making money from it.

Glad to know that adsense works great for you. It would never work for me. Just my 2 cents :)

Well said. This article is meant to be useful, and act as a simple reference while designing your own products. And they are based on Dieter Ram's years of experience as a designer.

Just because, it's simple doesn't mean it's not valuable. The best experts I know make things as simple as they possibly can.

Thanks for sharing the video link. Will check it out :)

Thanks to all HN users who upvoted this story. I don't remember seeing comic strips on HN frontpage, and wasn't sure about sharing this post. But I found it really good, and am glad you all found it useful.

Creating a great product needs time and hard work. This story beautifully illustrates that.

Earlier I used to spend so much time worrying about being perfect that many times I wouldn't even start. It's only now I realize the importance of creating good work every day, even though it may not be the best one.

I guess you could say I'm one of those weird programmer/designer hybrids. One thing I find fascinating is when I get into a long programming stint just how difficult it is to get back into the design mindset. I usually have to spend a few days producing, what I consider complete garbage, to get back into the groove. After that the creativity starts to flow naturally again.

It is almost seems like a muscle that atrophies without use. I wonder if that is why you see benefit in creating works each day? And why programmers are stereotypically said to be not be able to design, even though I see a lot of overlap.

The basic rules for success are always same. It's we who interpret them in different terms :)

I agree with that. I found some really good stories on Zenpencils. The beautiful visuals just add more power to the written stories.

I too have learned a lot from blogging. When I started out, it was discouraging, and still is, when you spend time in writing good posts and no one bothers to read them. But with time, you get better at it and actually start writing in a better way which others find easy to understand. And yes, sometimes google does recognize your good posts and sends you tons of traffic, even when your posts don't get shared on social media.

True. Practicing only makes sense when you learn from it.

Thanks Bryan. I too have the same experience.
