I'm all for everything being compatible with everything, but why should apple invest resources in testing/debugging android compatibility for something that they make?
There is a vast difference between testing and debugging and not intentionally making your product worse when on a standard BT connection which is basically what Apple is doing.
There is zero business sense in making it work as good on non Apple phones. There are plenty of other headphones to choose from that work well with android etc.
Indeed, target users are people seeking validation + kids and teenagers + people with a less developed critical mind.

It's not all or nothing. Within EU nations, you will find many systems that sit within a spectrum between a rigid 2 party system like the US, and a full blown multi-party coalition type government broken down into specific levels, like Belgium.
Or, if you're more of the entrepreneurial mindset, do one last update of the software to introduce a pay-as-you-go/SaaS model with your credit card in, and when you're leaving, you remove your credit card info.
