Despite his praise of Xi (IMO it's just part of Trump's "style" of negotiating), he's willingly initiated a trade war. I think that's a good indicator that he's willing to at least threaten decoupling. Trump has taken this much farther than any preceding US president.

Much news relies on anecdotes. Some of which are anonymous (aka unsubstantiated) while still involving issues higher stakes. Media is about clicks and influence.

Just because YOU haven't felt harmed or threatened doesn't mean that others feel that way. I generally agree with you but with some caveats. For example, users should have the ability to opt-in/out of data collection. Additionally there are some actors I would choose NOT to share this data with. Google is one of them.

There's a difference between actually harm and perceived harm. Lots of people feel harmed and threatened by vaccines. I'm not saying you shouldn't have privacy but I claiming you "feel harmed and threatened" isn't really an answer to "what's the harm"

Yeah, I don't understand this either. "I feel I was harmed." OK, where's your empirical reasoning to come to this conclusion?

I've wanted to visit Montreal my whole life but this comparison makes me want to avoid it!

It's a great city for tourists in summer.

But to live in Montreal is another ball game. Shops close at 9. On weekends by 5. Never ending construction. Old noisy apartments. Crazy drivers. Badly marked road signs.

The only good thing I have experienced so far is the metro system & the underground city.

I quite enjoyed it when I was there and I intend to visit again, but the comments above about it having the greatest nightlife of anywhere except Miami struck me as slightly mad. Maybe there's some secret stuff that I have not discovered yet...

You haven't missed anything. St Catherine's street is all the nightlife you get in Montreal. As a resident of Montreal in my opinion, a tourist will find the city good for a week or so partly because of its unique look n feel European style. After that the reality of Montreal's worn down infrastructure kicks in. I would say Montréal is just riding on its old glory days before Bill 101.

My wife is a Montreal native and we go there once a year to visit her mother. I love it there but it has it's downside like every other place. The roads are horrible and the traffic to get on and off the island is insane. Hopefully the new bridge will help. I think having a French speaking partner along with you makes the experience much better.

It's shocking to westerners but this is the nature of indoctrination. Also, note how OP compared tianxia to manifest destiny instead of lebensraum.

Yes, a psychoactive drug with a longstanding and controversial social history having substantial legal differences state-to-state is VERY significant and representative of what statehood represents in the US. Are you from the US? Based on your OP I'm not sure how much you understand mechanics of the federation. And TBH I'm not sure how much you understand China--personally I think 1930s era fascism is a better analogy.

The Supremacy clause of the Constitution really has gutted the original premise of states rights. The only reason that the Federal government doesn't send in the DEA to Oregon/WA/Colorado much anymore is due to politics and culture, not legal mechanisms.

> is VERY significant and representative of what statehood represents in the US

Not really. It's frigging pot. It's been de-facto legal for decades.

Show me a state doing something serious, like banning guns, reversing roe v wade, changing the state language, change the voting age. Difference-between-country stuff. I should have thought of something like that for my initial post; would have reduced this silly nitpicking.

And thanks, I'm not from the USA but I'm from a federation too so yeah, I have some idea. As for the China knowledge - looking forward to your cogent, evidenced retort. 请说普通话。

> banning guns, reversing roe v wade

You realize gun and abortion laws already vary greatly from state to state?

No-where near as much as they vary country to country.

It's an interesting conundrum. Many values held by the US founding fathers were flawed (IMO due to the period's sentiment). But how would they feel about a globalized economy that is manipulated by a tyrannical force to infringe on liberties in the US?

Is 'flawed' the correct way to describe it though? Generally held beliefs of morality and ethics can differ wildly between societies and time.

I agree with you 100%. I would bet that Blizzard's radio silence had been planned from the start. People will forget but the more they apologize the more they dig themselves into a hole that's tough to get out of. Personally, I hope that I can withstand the desire to re-subscribe in two weeks.

For what it's worth, there seems to be a lot of viral marketing around this product. According to this reddit thread I'm not the only one who feels this way.

You can attack the messenger all you want. That sword cuts both ways--we can disregard your opinion because Google writes your paycheck, right?

Well, the messenger's own data shows many left wing sites also in the blacklist. But of course, any data points that don't fit the 'conservatives are victims' model is excluded, only selected data need apply.
