Wouldn't it be cheaper and better for the environment to buy some land off Germany or Sweden? Once the deal is sealed, they could start building the city the very next day.
Yeah, countries are usually unwilling or incapable of turning over their land to another country.
Back in 2016, the Norwegians had an idea to gift Finland a new highest peak by shifting the border between Finland and Norway just a bit as Finland was due to celebrate its 100th year of independence. However, it never actually went anywhere since it'd be unconstitutional for Norway to start splitting off its country.
This is to protect the local port for the capital of the country, particularly during large storms. Buying land inland along the border would not accomplish this protection task.
There is plenty of space in Denmark for its existing population (and for millions more, for that sake). The issue is that there is not that much space in Copenhagen.
There is plenty of space in Copenhagen. However plans to build anything anywhere gets shot down constantly with silly laws and restrictions. Politicians don’t want a more healthy housing market in the capital because they are all some of those who are profiting most from how unhealthy it is.
Because they want to sell expensive housing close to the sea, not affordable housing far from the sea.
It's a stupid prestige project, primarily designed to attract rich investors, who will let their investment object apartments sit empty, creating another dead neighborhood.
It is definitely an idiotic and corrupt project, but how would it help Copenhagen to buy a part of Sweden? There's plenty of farmland in Denmark that could be used, including within bicycle distance of the center.
It'd be great to see it deployed in at least 1 national network but TBH no Telco is going to implement it as they're bound by the law to provide lawful interception.
I loved that gentle yet classy slap in the face that France (most likely directed by Germany) gave to the UK when they closed the border in Calais for a while.
Macron has been taking a harder stance than Merkel for a while so it seems more likely that this is a response to the UK threatening to guard it's waters with Naval ships.
Obviously they have a right to do so but reminding your friends that you have guns isn't the most polite way to negotiate.
It was certainly an interestingly timed move in any case and a sharp reminder that "taking back control" of the borders goes both ways.
I think in general the demoscene is more heavily weighing technical excellence. Ie the audience is expected to understand and be awed by that, more than the artistic part, though the latter can be important as well.
There are and were all kinds of competitions. The wild category is probably the most obvious one regarding no size limitations, but the generic "combined demo" category which is very often present at competitions is also usually without restrictions (but it must run on the competition machine).
OHP Mega Demo 9000 is one of the greatest things to come out of the scene.
Fun fact: In the famous HBO "spinning chrome logo" intro ( https://youtu.be/i1NKoMNy5bY ), the sole use of a computer in generating visual effects was to control a servomotor that slid one patterned transparency over another, much like this demo, to create a "starburst" effect (seen just before the logo itself appears).
Yeah, I meant it more in a metaphorical sense. I don't think many artists are as dedicated and to some extent extreme as sceners. I think one guy of Farbrausch got a heart attack on a release party. Sceners seem to seek crunch time...
I gave musicbraiz few chances in the past. To my disappointment, I was able to find maybe 20% of albums I wa looking for compared to discogs.
And even if I found one, then it missed plenty of meta data that's available on discogs.
I had the same issue with musicbrainz but recently it seems to have much better metadata for my stuff. But usually between the two you can find what you are looking for.
